Tourist guide: don’t miss out anything of the grape route

Now that we have situated ourselves a little bit more, knowing the origins of the route and the areas that form part of the grape rout in Axarquía, we will go through some recommendations in this post as a tourist guide. Ready? Come with us.

Vélez in Malaga

A good area to start our grape route is Vélez-Málaga, where you can introduce yourself in the world of vineyards, wine and of course: grapes! This is a typical Andalusian town with its white small houses on the valleys’ slopes, small streets, …

El Borge

After a walk through Vélez, we can take the car and make a beautiful stop in El Borge, which is situated only seven minutes from our beginning point.

El Borge is famous because it is said to be the place where you can get the best grapes of the area. The whole village revolves around this product, from the shops specialized in grapes to different sculptures in town. Apart from the grapes, you can also enjoy one of the most delicious figs covered with chocolate.

Cútar

After having enjoyed knowing Borge, the next obligatory stop in our tourist grape route is a visit to Cútar.

This precious Andalusian town conserves the Arab tradition in the aesthetics of its constructions. And apart from tasting the grapes, you can buy one of the best olive oils, which are almost as known as the exquisite grapes.

Nevertheless, if you like sweet wine, you will find in different local shops the wines that are elaborated at the vineyards in the area. And for the more sweet-toothed amongst us, we recommend the “Tortas de leche” (milk cookies), which you can buy at any stand along the street.

Moclinejo

Let’s go for a walk now in Moclinejo along the rests of the Arab wall that decorates the entrance of this municipality.

We can embed ourselves in the full tradition of the grapes and the history of the route throughout the centuries as Molinejo has a Studies’ Centre of the grapes and wine, imagine which are the top products of this charming town in the area of Anxarquía.

Comares

Comares is a small town right in the middle of the mountains. The way up to the village offers spectacular views. Don’t miss out to stop in one of the viewpoint platforms.

We also recommend a stroll in the streets of this beautiful village of Arab style and buy some bottle of traditional sweet wine, one of the most claimed products apart from the grapes.

Totalán

We are getting to the end of our tourist guide through the area of Anxarquía, and now go towards Tatolán, a small village embedded in the mountains. There is no easy access, but is worth while the visit. The way up goes through the mountain, so you know, take it easy and with precaution.

Apart from tasting the top product of this article, we also recommend you to do some sightseeing in Tatolán and walk up to the dolmen del Cerro de la Corona.

Torre del Mar

After some days through the grape route, we get to the end of it and we think there is nothing better than to end our tourist route in Torre del Mar.

Leaving the mountains behind us, we get to the beach, where we can rest and recover ourselves at the beach bar along the sea and taste some marvellous “espetos” (roasted sardines). Not everything is about grapes!

Up to here our tourist guide on the grape route, we hope you have enjoyed the area of Axarquía, one of the most beautiful and most recommendable areas at the Costa del Sol.
