Benalmádena is an ideal place to spend holiday on the Costa del Sol. Year after year this town receives hundreds of tourists who are thrilled about its beauty and harmony. That’s why, so you can get the most out of your holidays in Benalmádena, we have prepared this tourist guide of places that you must see when you are on holidays in the area.

Get to know Benalmádena, the town

As you know, Benalmádena is located in the centre of the Costa del Sol and only 11 kilometres from Malaga airport, so communications are very good.

The great point in favour of this municipality is that it can offer us various possibilities of leisure and fun, from quiet moments and disconnection to others more lively, enjoying the night, as well as numerous cultural activities.

Like most of the coastal areas in Malaga, Benalmádena centre keeps the essence of Andalusian villages, white houses, pedestrian and narrow streets where you can get lost in a pleasant walk, such as in the Plaza de España.

Enjoy the beaches of Benalmádena on holiday

The truth is that we could dedicate a post exclusively on the beaches of Benalmádena (and surely we will do) but as today we are dealing with a tourist guide that mentions the main points of interest, we will not talk about the 14 beaches in the area. So we will recommend two of them: Bil-Bil Beach and the beach of Arrollo de la Miel.

The Bil-Bil beach consists of about 400 meters, is not one of the largest, but has a lot of charm to be in the heart of the municipality. In addition, it has a seafront promenade along the coast offering a truly breath-taking panoramic view.

The beach of Arrollo de la Miel is one of the best known in Benalmádena, more than 600 meters of sand to enjoy your days on the beach.

Port of Benalmádena

The port of Benalmádena known as Puerto Marina, is one of the best known in Europe and of course the Costa del Sol, undoubtedly along with Puerto Banús.

It has more than a thousand moorings for boats from all over the world, making it one of the most active in the entire province. Besides enjoying a pleasant day trip, it also has a powerful nightlife with bars, pubs and discos of the most sophisticated ones.

A walk in the clouds, the Benalmádena cable car

And now it is the ideal moment to climb to the sky of Benalmádena in his famous cable car and enjoy breath-taking views.

It represents one of the favourite activities for the smallest amongst us, so if you go on a family holiday, do not hesitate to make this plan with the smallest ones, they will love it!

In addition, you will go more than 750 meters high and contemplate the stunning views of Sierra Nevada, Guadalhorce Valley and if it is a clear day, you will contemplate Gibraltar and the African coast.

The Castle of Colomares

We get to one of the most emblematic historical monuments of Benalmádena, the Castle of Colomares, which is a tribute to Christopher Columbus, narrating in a symbolic way the discovery of America, through the symbols we find in it, all related to the famous discovery, from the beginning of the idea to the end.

A construction that mixes styles from Byzantine, to romantic and Gothic through the Mudejar-style. It took seven years to give it its shape, which, given its complexity, it can be said that its construction from 1987 to 1994 was quite fast.

As a curiosity, let me tell you that within the vicinity of the castle you will find the church that has the Guinness record for being the smallest in the world, its dimensions being only 1.96 meters. A real miniature!

As you can see in our tourist guide of Benalmádena, this municipality of Malaga offers a lot of places of interest to go on holiday in the area. And as we told you at the beginning of this post, whether you are looking for tranquillity or more nightlife, you can find it in this town without any problem!
