If you are an art fan and you are planning to come on holiday to Malaga, don’t miss out the museums’ route. What museums are we talking about? Special attention to our post: we are presenting you a list of the most famous ones worthwhile to visit.

It is normal that when you think of Malaga, you think of one of the most touristic places of the Costa del Sol. And we can’t deny it, of course it is. But Malaga offers much more to the visitors than beaches and chiringuitos, which is mostly an excellent idea, but once in a while dedicating a few days to culture isn’t a bad idea either. Don’t you think?

As Malaga offers a huge offer of museums, we are dividing this post in two arts. So, here comes the first part!

The Picasso museum in Malaga

If we are talking about museums in Malaga, it is impossible not to dedicate this post in the first place to the Picasso museum.

What can we say about Pablo Picasso that hasn’t been said already? Probably one of the most famous artists in the world, or even better said, we are sure he is. Creator of cubism, his art is known worldwide.

The Foundation under his name is in effect the place where he lived. So you can actually walk around exactly where he created the stunning pieces or art of this famous artist. Undoubtedly this is an incredible experience and the entrance only cost some 6 euros for the permanent exposition and some 2 euros to see the house where he was born. One more reason not to miss out this opportunity.

What will you find at the house-museum-foundation Picasso? Lot’s of pieces of art of course: there are all together 285 pieces (paintings, drafts, sculptures, etc.), but also furniture, utensils that he used in his pieces of art, photography, etc.

Centre for Contemporaneous Art of Malaga

If you are looking for an artistic thought-provoking space with the divulgation of more modern visual and plastic arts then this is your space.

The free-entrance centre hosts a total of 400 pieces of art of the last third of the 20th century including more avant-garde pieces or art of our days.

If you wish to discover new artist and compromising pieces of art, don’t hesitate to pass by and breathe in the ground-breaking  atmosphere of this centre.

It doesn’t matter in which period you come to visit the centre, you will always find different temporary exhibitions or even different film cycles. Don’t doubt it: if you are a movie lover, this is an obligatory visit.

During the year, they also hold very interesting workshops and seminars, so don’t forget to take a look at their website to see if there is by any chance an interesting event in the period you come over.

Malaga’s museum

Malaga’s museum is the result of the union of two artistic centres: the Museum of Fine Arts and the Archaeological Museum.

This allowed for the museum to have a huge amount of art works on its walls, for example just for you to have an idea of its magnitude, it has more than 1500 archaeological pieces and more than 2000 pieces of art going from the 15th century up to contemporary art.

Let’s say that if you wish to see it entirely, you will need the whole morning to admire all those pieces of art.

Centre Pompidou in Malaga

No, we didn’t make a mistake and we haven’t gone suddenly to France. And it is more, Paris can’t be the only city to enjoy having a Pompidou centre, Malaga also has one!

As a matter of fact, it is the first place where this famous artistic centre was created outside the French territory. Let’s say it maintains the same avant-garde essence.

The centre has a permanent exhibition that is related to five different subjects: metamorphosis, body in pieces, political body, self-portraits and men without faces. And artists that form part of this exhibition are amongst others Francis Bacon, Joan Miró, Frida Kahlo, Georg Baselitz, Max Ernst, and much more.

Apart from this amazing permanent exhibition, there are also different exhibitions on specific subjects of photography, architecture, and design and video and even different dance shows, movies and seminars of artists.
