If you go to Nerja on holiday, the first thing we would like to say, you have made a good choice and secondly, there are 6 unforgettable things to do and see at Nerja that you can’t miss out. Which ones are they? You must read our post on tourism in Nerja to discover.
Let’s begin!
1. Beaches of Nerja
Maybe in the future, we will dedicate an exclusive post on the marvellous beaches of Nerja because they are truly stunning. But today we are trying to give a summary of the things to do and see in this town, so we will give you a list of beaches to go to.

Playa Burriana
Probably the most visited beach of all Nerja, it is also the biggest to tell the truth. Apart from that, it has numerous restaurants just right at the beach where you can enjoy Nerja’s gastronomy, and yes, they also have “espetos” (grilled sardines) and they are delicious!
Playa del Carabeillo
Situated just at the famous viewpoint Bendito, this beach is one of the most beautiful places of Nerja, although the access is a little bit more difficult to reach.
Playa del Chorillo
To reach this beach, you must cross the beach of Calahonda (we do recommend you to go to this beach as well as it is quite charming). You will find a natural enclave with almost no people at all as not every tourist knows about this beach. Furthermore, the wild environment has been respected so it is not full of shops and hence not full of people.
2. The caves of Nerja
But not everything is about beaches in this city that forms part of the district of the Axarquia. Don’t miss out a visit to the famous caves of Nerja.
They have been discovered in 1959, and you will enjoy the paintings that are more than two thousand years old as a unique experience to see where the first men on earth have been living.
Something curious, the caves have numerous stalactites that will leave you surprised at every step.
This is for sure an obligatory visit when sightseeing Nerja, or even better: very obligatory!
3. Balcony of Europa
The legend goes that the King Alfonso XII called it this way because when he looked over the balcony he could see Africa whilst being in Europe himself and hence, it was called the Balcony of Europa.

Nothing much to add: the views are absolutely stunning from there and if the Mediterranean sea allows it and there is no fog, you will see Africa.
4. The river Chillar cahorros
If you want to enjoy a family trip and nature must be the protagonist, we recommend you to do have a walk through the river Chillar. If you don’t want to walk the 16 kilometres, you can do part of the trajectory.
The best time of the year to go is in spring, so if you happen to be in Nerja that time of the year, don’t miss out this opportunity!
5. “Verano azul” moment
Obviously, we couldn’t make this tourist guide on things to see and do in Nerja without mentioning a paragraph on the boat of Verano Azul, la Dorada I.
Situated in the park with the same name as the mythic Spanish series, you can take a picture in this boat and take a direct memory to the heart of your childhood. And if are a true fan, you can do a tour with Tito the guide, who will explain you each and every detail of this mythic series.

And of course, now that you are sightseeing Nerja, don’t forget to make a stroll through the city centre and fall in love with it. Truly, there is something charming about it that will captivate you. Image, typical white houses of the typical Andalusian villages.
The Town Hall and its square are specially enchanting and don’t forget to have a look at the compelling church El Salvador, but as said before, just take a stroll through its small streets and get lost in the backstreets of the city centre!
Afterwards, just to recharge your batteries, take a rest at one of the several terraces that you will find on your way.
